Summer Reading Challenge among library’s summer programs

The Oglethorpe County Library is hosting summer programs every week for families throughout June and July. The library also has a summer reading program for children, teens and adults, with a prize if you complete it.

Campbell hired to lead baseball program

Oglethorpe County has its new head baseball coach.   Mike Campbell, who spent the past two seasons at McIntosh County Academy, has been hired to take over the program. He was approved at the Board of Education’s called board meeting on June 1.

He’s all business

Owen Bullard, the new chairman of the Oglethorpe County Chamber of Commerce, has several ideas to revamp the chamber, including establishing a women’s networking group.

Concert series a pathway to new community center

From the food to the music to the audience, everything about the event was grassroots.    A crowd of 40 sat in front of plates of pulled pork and fries from 2nd Chance BBQ in the barn of Platt Brooks’ Estate on March 18 for a performance by the Barrow Creek Bluegrass Band.

New school projected to cost $44-45 million

Staff Report   The Oglethorpe County Board of Education has up to $49 million to spend on construction of the new elementary school, but school board chair Becky Soto expects the final cost to be about $44-45 million.

Holland, Dickens named as co-athletic directors

Head football coach Mike Holland and girls basketball/softball head coach Brianne Dickens have agreed to serve as athletic director and co-athletic director for Oglethorpe County High School.

Wesley Chapel separates from Fire and Rescue

The Oglethorpe County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the separation of Wesley Chapel Volunteer Fire Department from Oglethorpe County Fire and Rescue at Monday’s meeting.
