Prep Roundup: McGarity leads boys basketball to victory

Luke McGarity scored 19 points and Nick Huff added 15 points to lead the Oglethorpe County boys basketball to a 57-47 victory over Athens Christian School on Tuesday night.
Both teams are coached by former UGA basketball players.

BOC to reassess administrator position

The Oglethorpe County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to move the discussion over the county administrator appointment to next March after a lengthy executive session.

This year’s Maxeys Christmas Parade is expecting larger numbers of spectators after COVID-19 limited attendance in 2020.
In 2019, the parade’s inaugural year, about 75 people (including participants) attended.

Reading plan works well at OCMS

Remedial reading techniques have increased in more than 50 students at Oglethorpe County Middle School.
Fifty-three OCMS students completed 3,539 lessons in the remedial reading plan powered by Reading Plus, with the average student improving reading levels by 2.
