The Oglethorpe County Board of Education celebrated the classified employees of the year at each of the schools during its monthly meeting Tuesday night.
Everneda Moore is in special education at Oglethorpe County Primary School, Lori Hall is the ISS paraprofessional at OCES, Madison Phillips is a parapro for seventh-grade science and social studies at OCMS, and Carl Young is a custodian at OCHS.
They were chosen for the award by their peers.
In other news, OCMS was recognized by the Georgia Department of Education as a math leader school for students who have demonstrated strong achievement or growth in math proficiency.
Oglethorpe County Board of Education continued the discussion on House Bill 581 from its work session on Oct. 22. The board will need to develop its own plan if it decides to opt out of HB 581.
In other news, the board of education:
- Approved Elaine Kitchens as the BOE's representative on the library board.
- Proposed dates for the 2025 BOE meetings and work sessions.
- Approved minutes from previous minutes.
- Approved the personnel report, which includes these moves: Eileen Banks is resigning; Wendy Brown, Melissa Forren, Tiffanie Patrick, April Moreland, Cheryl Heeney and Breanna Thomas were approved as substitutes; Jack Todd, Kaitlyn Watkins, Montana Barner and Latoni Ramsey were selected for the ASPIRE Program.
- Approved two playgrounds being moved and installed at the new Oglethorpe County Elementary School. The cost is $50,000 and the PTO will cover the entire cost.
