Lexington
The Lexington City Council is in the process of moving into the new City Hall, next door to the old one. City clerk Kim Bradford said the previous building will be occupied by the water department.
The city’s phone number could take a week or so to transfer to the new building, so call 706-743-6066. The regular number — 706-743-3322 — should work sometime this week.
The city council also addressed a hole in the wall of the previous City Hall. Boggs Services is planning to repair it.
The council also voted to use Veritas to carry out building permits, electrical and plumbing inspections, if needed.
Maxeys
Maxeys Historic District was added to the National Register of historic places in 2022. This past month, the city received a sign to signify this district from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation.
The sign is bigger than anticipated, weighing well over 50 pounds, Mayor Warren Gilson said. Maxeys is in the process of finding a spot for the two-sided marker.
The digital speed sign on Highway 77 has been replaced after the previous one had stopped working.
