Customers crave G Brand BBQ’s banana pudding

G Brand BBQ has been serving homemade barbeque for almost six years, but like many restaurants of its kind, one of its most popular dishes is banana pudding.

“We make it all fresh, fresh bananas, fresh cookies and keep it in a chilled dish,” said Ashtyn Allen, who manages the restaurant. “It goes quickly, so we have to make at least four a day.”

It’s safe to say, the pudding is a customer favorite, but G Brand BBQ’s staff makes large batches to keep up with the demand.

“With us serving, it’s about 50 people, but if they are serving themselves, probably less because they want more on their plate,” Allen said.

The pudding and barbeque are made from scratch, which is a reflection of the atmosphere in the G Brand BBQ kitchen.

“They’re like family,” Allen said about her co-workers. “People always joke ‘we’re working,’ but it really does just feel like family.”

And for some, they actually are working with family.

Not only does Allen work alongside her grandmother at G Brand BBQ, but Amber Smith, the catering manager, works with her daughter.

“My daughter’s in college, so I know it’s probably not forever, but I wish it would be,” Smith said.

Allen said these personal connections are what make the job fun.

“My grandmother works here, Amber’s daughter works here, there’s two sisters who work here, and my good friends,” Allen said. “So there’s a lot of personal connection, and can it be challenging? Yes. But like we still have fun.”
