Eight Republican candidates qualified for the Board of Commissioners and the Board of Education seats for the general primary, scheduled for Tuesday, May 19.
Incumbent commissioners Howard Sanders (District 1), David Clark (District 3) and Tracy Norman (District 5) qualified for reelection to their seats.
Challengers Britt Brooks (District 1) and Randolph (Randy) Gordon (District 5) also qualified for the Board of Commissioners.
Incumbent Susan Robinson (District 3) qualified for reelection to the Board of Education.
Jenny Wisham and Thomas Carroll qualified for the BOE District 5 seat held by Chair Becky Soto. Soto announced in February that she won’t seek reelection after 12 years on the BOE.
No Democrats qualified for any seats.
Regardless of voting preference, Steve McCannon, election assistant at the Oglethorpe County Board of Elections, encouraged all registered voters to participate.
“Go ahead and vote in the primaries,” McCannon said.
Early voting for the primary will start on Monday, April 20 and ends at noon Friday, May 15 at the Oglethorpe County Board of Elections at 41 Fairground Road in Lexington.
Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with no Sunday early voting. There will be two Saturdays of early voting: May 2 and May 9.
