Lexington’s new City Hall is ready.
City Clerk Kim Bradford said the final steps were completed last week, when the accessible parking lot was finished.
Bradford said the lot’s construction was a two-day process and cost $3,600. It features a cement walkway and a ramp leading to the building.
Morse and Son’s Cement Finishing, an Athens-based business, handled the construction of the parking lot.
“Some people are up in age, and some people have knee issues,” Bradford said. “Because it is kind of hard getting up the steps here, it was nice to have a ramp and have something easy.”
City council member Ronnie Boggs estimated the entire renovation process — between upgrades to the building, installing a new parking lot and the addition of an accessible parking lot — was around $16,000.
Boggs said Lexington needed a new City Hall for several reasons, though plumbing and heating were at the top of the list. The previous building will be used as a storage unit for the water department, Mayor Craig Snow has said.
The council won’t move to the new City Hall just yet. Bradford said she hopes to move in after finishing a few remaining tasks from 2023.
“The only thing left to do is pick a date and move up there, really,” Bradford said. “It’ll probably be sometime in February.”
