Local Roundup: Community Day scheduled for OCMS on Aug. 2

The annual Community Day festivities will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2 at Oglethorpe County Middle School.

It will be the second consecutive year Community Day will be held at OCMS after being moved from Bryan Park for heat concerns in 2024.

More than 500 people attended the event last year, including about 250 students, making it the “most well attended” Community Day in several years, organizer Jeanne Jones told The Echo.

Even though Oglethorpe County schools start on Aug. 1, students will be able to pick up free school supplies. The organizing committee also hopes to give other items to students.

Every child will receive a “passport” at the registration table at the event. They can go to various booths and have the passport stamped after they receive information about community resources, according to a release.

Filled passports can be exchanged for headphones/earphones and can be entered into a drawing for other prizes.

The event will include food trucks, vendors, activities for children and a family movie at sunset.

Organizers are looking for sponsors, who will receive levels of recognition at the event, depending on the sponsorship level.

Platinum Level is $1,000, Gold is $500, Silver is $250, Bronze is $100 and Community is $50.

Checks can be made out to Oglethorpe County Community Day and dropped off at The Commercial Bank in Crawford. Online payments can be made at oglethorpe-county-community-day.square.site (there is a 3% convenience fee).
