The Original Screw Tops will kick off Downtown Lexington’s 2025 concert series in Meson Park at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The Original Screw Tops, who are based in Athens, play original blues and versions of the classics.
This is the first of three concerts this spring. The others are:
- Gwen Hughes and the Kats, 7 p.m. Saturday, May 3
- Rick Fowler Band, 7 p.m. Saturday, May 24
The Rick Fowler Band also performed in Meson Park last June and Gwen Hughes and the Kats closed out the 2023 concert series in June of that year.
If it rains, the concert will be moved to the Lexington Community Center. Food vendors will be on site.
Treasurer resigns after 7½ years with MOAS
Glenda Faulkner resigned as treasurer of the board of the Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter on March 31.
She wrote in an email that she will continue to volunteer and work with fundraisers, such as Butts for Mutts and Putts for Mutts.
Faulkner, who had been with MOAS for 7½ years, wrote that “it is time to take some time for me and my family.”
MOAS recently hired Juli Huth as director, replacing William Stevenson, who was hired last September.
MOAS announces open intake policy
Intake appointments for both cats and dogs are no longer required at the Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter.
The policy began Wednesday and the intake hours are noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday-Friday.
Those who already have appointments can bring animals in during the intake hours.
Stray animals that are brought in will be held for three days. Afterward, those animals will be available for adoption.
County schedules tire amnesty event
Oglethorpe County will hold a tire amnesty event at the landfill from April 22-26.
County residents will be allowed to bring passenger vehicle and semi-truck tires (without rims), free of charge on those dates.
The times are 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. April 22-25 and from 8-11:45 a.m. April 26.
Oglethorpe County residents only, so residents must bring proof of residence.
Arts!Oglethorpe to show “I and You”
Arts!Oglethorpe will continue its 30th anniversary season by presenting “I and You” at 7:30 p.m. May 2-3 at the Historic Crawford School.
Lilah Hall will play Carolina and August Thompson will play Anthony in the play directed by Chris Say.
In June, Arts!Oglethorpe will present “Shrek The Musical.” It will be directed by Penny Miller and Bly Hartley.

Library to host application workshop
The Oglethorpe County Library will host an information session and workshop from 3-6 p.m. April 11 for students applying for the new The Oglethorpe Echo Scholarship.
All required forms will be available at the event. Librarians will be on site to proofread essays and provide application feedback.
The seniors from Oglethorpe County will be chosen for $1,000 scholarships.
