Local Roundup: Ross earns prestigious GHP mathematics honor

Oglethorpe County junior Victor Ross was recently accepted into the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) for mathematics this summer.

He was one of only 70 mathematics finalists from 3,464 nominees for GHP, which is held at Georgia Southern.

Ross consistently ranks in the top 10% of the class of 2027 and has maintained all A’s throughout high school, all while completing a rigorous schedule of honors, advanced placement and college dual enrollment coursework.

Ross also is preparing for the state Science Olympiad in April, after helping the team qualify by earning a silver medal in two of his events in the regional competition.

He also has found success in music on the alto saxophone.

He serves as woodwind captain for the marching band and performs in both the concert and jazz bands. He has earned placements in the District Honor Band both in middle and high school, and in 2025, received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Musicianship Award, among other honors.

GHP is a residential four-week summer program from mid-June to mid-July for high school sophomores and juniors that offers instruction that differs from the typical high school classroom.

Students attend classes in the mornings and afternoons in specific areas of study, and participate in a wide variety of social and instructional opportunities every evening.
