Changes are happening at the store formerly known as Bell’s.

The Bell’s sign was replaced two weeks ago by one with the name of the current owner, B&T’s Food Fresh Market.

The sign by the road was scheduled to be changed at the same time, but it was the wrong size, so it has to be re-made, B&T’s Food Fresh Market COO Mark Mulkey wrote in an email on Tuesday.

More changes are coming, he said.

They include a new point of sale system on the front end, which will allow B&T’s to offer a loyalty program and digital coupons. Mulkey said customers will only need to provide their cell phone numbers.

Plans also include aesthetic enhancements, both inside and outside the store, and programs that will “offer more variety and freshness to our customers,” Mulkey said.

“We're very grateful for the warm reception from the Lexington community and look forward to being a part of the community for generations to come,” he said.

B&T’s bought all five Bell’s locations — Lexington, Athens, Watkinsville, Jefferson and Lincolnton — last October. That doubled the size of the company, which was founded by John Triplett and Clark Brunson in the early 2000s.
