News Roundup: Chamber needs host businesses

The Oglethorpe County Chamber of Commerce needs host businesses for two monthly events: the networking breakfast and the business after hours.

The networking breakfast is held at 8:30 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the Depot. The chamber provides beverages and the sponsoring business provides food.

The host business can present a program about itself and each attendee can introduce themselves and speak briefly about their businesses.

The business after hours events are held at 5:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month. They are typically held at the sponsoring business, which provides food and beverages, and gives tours/overviews.

Call or email the chamber at 706-743-3113 and oglethorpechamber@gmail.com to host and sponsor one of these events.

Primitive weapons deer season begins

Primitive weapons deer season begins Saturday, Oct. 14.

Hunters can use archery equipment, air bows, muzzleloading shotguns (20 gauge and larger) and air rifles and muzzleloading firearms that are .30 caliber or larger. Scopes and other sighting devices are legal.

Also, hunters under 16 can hunt deer with any legal deer firearm during primitive weapons season, including during any wildlife management area primitive weapons hunts.

State law allows hunters to harvest up to 10 antlerless deer and no more than two antlered deer (one of the two antlered deer must have a minimum of four points, one inch or longer, on one side of the antlers or a minimum 15-inch outside antler spread).

Deer season ends on Jan. 14 for most hunters in Georgia.

All harvested deer must be reported through Georgia Game Check within 24 hours. Deer can be reported on the Outdoors GA app (which works regardless of cell service) at gooutdoorsgeorgia.com or call 1-800-366-2661.
