News roundup: Gray Wolf to hold talk about quarry

Geological engineer Benjamin Black and representatives from Gray Wolf Quarries LLC will hold a discussion about the proposed dimension stone quarry on Lexington-Carlton Road from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 23 at Town and Country Kafe. 

 

Black and the representatives will answer questions about “quarry operations, environmental impacts and engineering controls, employment opportunities and economic benefits to the community,” according to a release.

 

Pastries and coffee will be available.

 

The Oglethorpe County Board of Commissioners tabled a vote on the quarry until its meeting on Monday, June 3. 

 

Free concert planned for Meson Park on June 1

 

The Rick Fowler Acoustic Band, an accomplished blues rock band, will host a free concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 1 at Meson Park in downtown Lexington. 

 

Food from 2nd Chance BBQ will be available for purchase and donations to the Lexington Community Center will be accepted.

 

Members of the band — Fowler (vocals/guitar), Michael Doke (guitar/slide guitar/vocals), Greg Veale (bass/vocals) and Deane Quinter (drums) — have played with several renowned musicians, including Joe Walsh, Normaltown Flyers, Greg Allman, Derek Trucks and members of Drivin’ n’ Cryin’, R.E.M. and Widespread Panic, among others.
