Melanie Miller
Melanie Miller, who lives in the Greene County town of White Plains, will run against incumbent Trey Rhodes for the District 124 seat in the Georgia House of Representatives this year.
Miller, 54, is a native of Greensboro, a U.S. Army Reserves combat medic veteran and a graduate of Massey Business College in Atlanta. She serves on the Greensboro Housing Authority Board of Commissioners and Greene County Historic Society.
“When I left home to enlist in the military, I saw so many things that made me look at life as an adult, not a child,” Miller said in an email. “I can relate to a broad range of challenges that everyone faces daily, those of us who have and those who have not enough.
“I want to be in a position to help women with human rights. I want to make sure that mental health resources are available in Georgia. I want to help make more common sense gun laws. These are major concerns that affect us all in one way or another.”
