Arnoldsville get-together is planned

Residents, community leaders and city officials are invited to attend an Arnoldsville get-together at No. 3 RR St., from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6.

Pastors and ministers, fire departments, business leaders, candidates for public office and other organizations are encouraged to attend.

“This isn’t a political issue, just a chance for folks in our little town to get to know each other and find ways we can help Arnoldsville turn into a better place,” event organizer Mary Nouri wrote in an email. “There are people we know and some with older and younger faces we don’t know. We want to meet as many of our community as we can.”

Health department offers vaccines

The Oglethorpe County Health Department has updated COVID-19 and flu vaccines, which are recommended for everyone ages 6 months and older.

Updated COVID-19 vaccines were approved last month and are designed to protect against recent variants of COVID-19.

The flu shot is updated annually to match the types of flu expected to be most common each year. It’s recommended that most people get their annual flu shot in September and October for best protection throughout the season.

White County hires Pittard as manager

Former Oglethorpe County Commission Chair Billy Pittard has been hired as the county manager for White County. Pittard, who was commission chair from 2009-2020, was the lone finalist for the position.

“We are excited to welcome Mr. Pittard as our county manager,” said Travis Turner, Chairman of the White County Board of Commissioners. "His leadership and community-oriented approach make him the ideal candidate to help us address the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead."
