News roundup: Royston’s Jordan will run for DA

David Jordan, an attorney in Royston and a professor of business at Emmanuel University, will run for District Attorney of the Northern Judicial Circuit, which includes Franklin, Hart, Madison, Elbert and Oglethorpe counties.

 

D. Parks White has been DA of the Northern Judicial Circuit since 2013.

 

Jordan, who announced his candidacy at a meeting of the Hart County Republicans last week, has 21 years of experience in local government, serving 12 years as the mayor of Royston. 

 

He holds a Bachelor of Science and an MBA from The Citadel and a law degree from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School.


Applications for primary absentee ballots taken

 

The Oglethorpe County Board of Elections & Registration is accepting applications from voters who would like an absentee ballot mailed to them for the Presidential Preference Primary on March 12.  

 

The deadline to accept applications is March 1. 

 

Ballots will be mailed beginning Feb. 12.  Applications can be found at oglethorpecountyga.gov (go to the Government pulldown menu and click Elections & Registration) or by calling the elections office at 706-743-8954.  

 

Advance voting for the Presidential Preference Primary will begin on Monday, Feb.19 at the Board of Elections office at 41 Fairground Road in Lexington.

 

Athens runner wins Winterville 10K

 

Luke Mortensen of Athens won the 10th annual Winterville Snowflake 10K with a time of 33:35.2 on Saturday. 

 

Winterville’s Brian Dragotto was second (38:45.7) and Sally Kirklewski, of Athens, was third (first overall female) with a time of 39.04.5.

 

Crawford’s Mark Stocks was 11th (45:06.2).

 

This was the first race of this year’s Firefly Trail Race Series, which also includes the Maxeys Model Mile 5K (May 18), the Crawford Restoration Run 5K (Sept. 2) and the Union Point Junction Jamboree 5K Run (Sept. 28).

 

Chamber moves after hours event to Jan. 25

 

The Oglethorpe County Chamber Business After Hours event this month has been moved to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25 at the Crawford Depot. 

 

Food and drink will be available. Members and non-members are welcome.
