Deputies with the Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kendrick Tyree Walter on Feb. 5 and charged him with armed robbery for an incident at the Peach Express in Crawford last month.

Walter, 32, of Lexington, is accused of entering the gas station on Dec. 3, pointing a gun at the clerk, according to the incident report, and demanding money.

No customers or employees were harmed.

Walter was identified from security footage recorded during the robbery, Oglethorpe County Sheriff David Gabriel said.

“We had an idea who the suspect was, even though he was masked at the time,” Gabriel said. “So we went back — GBI is assisting with it, because they have a lot more capabilities as far as electronic evidence and stuff — and waited for some of that evidence to come back and look at certain things. And the person we thought it was, their phone was actually at that location during the robbery, so it kind of corroborated what we thought.”

A search warrant was issued for a Wilkes County residence where Walter was staying, Gabriel said. He was arrested there.

“We don’t have very many armed robberies. Very, very unusual,” Gabriel said. “And when we have one, we break out all the stops to make sure we get them because we make it a priority, because we’re not going to tolerate that kind of stuff in our county.”

Walter remained in jail without bond on Tuesday.
