Several readers emailed photos that show the aftermath of the heavy rain and flooding throughout Oglethorpe County this summer, especially last week, when 5-8 inches fell, according to the Oglethorpe County Rainfall Reporting Network.
Pete Kalla measured 8.88 inches of rain in Sandy Cross and Danny Morcom reported that 6.30 inches fell in Arnoldsville.
Several roads, including Benton Road, Vesta-Palmetto Road, Smokey Hollow Road, Thaxton Road and Burt Road, among others, were closed Aug. 6 as floodwaters made them impassable and dangerous to motorists. Most were open by Thursday.
