Meet the Robinsons: Josh, Corie balance family, public service

Josh and Corie Robinson’s 13-year marriage began in an unlikely place.  “We met at an assisted living facility,” said Corie Robinson, director of the Oglethorpe County Senior Center. “I was working (there), and it’s (where) his grandfather lived.

Photos: Storms close roads, knock down big trees

Several readers emailed photos that show the aftermath of the heavy rain and flooding throughout Oglethorpe County this summer, especially last week, when 5-8 inches fell, according to the Oglethorpe County Rainfall Reporting Network.  Pete Kalla measured 8.

Mistake leads to more rumble strip issues

The rumble strip saga has taken a new twist.   The rumble strips on both ends of Beaverdam Road that caused a stir among residents who said they were too loud, were recently filled in an effort to make them more quiet.

Smithonia meteorite has history

(Submitted Photo) There’s a rare spectacle in Ted and Patsy Hughes’ backyard.    A scenic drive down Smithonia Road leads to a quaint house with geometric-shaped gardens pointing south to a 600-foot wide grassy depression where a meteorite was found in 1940.
