Crawford Pizza’s soft opening last week was to help train the restaurant staff and work out the kinks before the grand opening, co-owner Blake Arnold said.

Arnold said he wants the community “to feel welcomed and enjoy the space, and the food as well,” while the staff is in training,

Jaida Rowland, a cashier, said she is excited “to meet new people and have a new experience with a new owner.”

The grand opening date still hasn’t been determined.

Crawford Pizza posted on Facebook on Sept. 9 that it would be closed through Wednesday, Sept. 13 to “restock, recharge and prepare for the week ahead.”

Rooster continues with limited hours

The Rowdy Rooster will be open on Saturday, Sept, 30, but owners Jamie Lewis and Kathleen deMarrais hope to open on Saturdays in October.

“We’ll post on (Facebook) to let people know when we’re open,” deMarrais said via email. “Jamie and I appreciate everyone’s understanding and support.”

Recently, deMarrais’ niece was diagnosed with a rare liver and bile duct cancer called cholangiocarcinoma. About 1,200 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with it each year, deMarrais said.

She has taken time away from the Rowdy Rooster to help her niece and to continue her recovery from a fall earlier this year.

“If people want to know more about this, there is a wonderful cholangiocarcinoma foundation online,” she said. “We’re helping as she gets chemo to fight this disease.”

Lewis and deMarrais opened Rowdy Rooster in May 2017 as an art and food products store. The store has a liquor and bakery/deli license.

“We opened a business because we wanted to provide the community with a place to come together to enjoy conversation,” she said.

Blazers reopens after COVID-19 closure

Blazers, Lexington’s hot wings and burger restaurant, has reopened after a COVID-19 case two weeks ago.

“One of the employees tested positive for COVID, and we closed,” owner Elaine Smith said in a statement. “As soon as I found out that afternoon, I sent a message and said ‘Blazers will be closed until further notice.’ ”

Smith said she and her husband suffer from health problems, and they find it important to keep a clean environment.

“If somebody comes down with COVID, we have to deep clean this building,” she said.  Smith said she’s willing to close again if needed for the safety of the staff and patrons.
