Becky Soto has been hired as the new business manager of The Oglethorpe Echo.
Soto, an Oglethorpe County native and chairman of the Board of Education for the past 12 years, started Monday.
“This is an exciting opportunity to take my passion for community advocacy to the next level,” Soto said. “I hope the community will take the time to stop by The Echo office and visit with me.”
Soto has spent her career in the banking industry since 2002, working at The Commercial Bank and Oconee State Bank before joining the Community Bankers Association of Georgia as the director of professional development in February 2020.
She announced last February that she wouldn’t seek reelection to the Board of Education. Her term ends in December.
Soto replaces Trisha Bearden, who resigned last month after more than two years in the position.
“With Becky, I get that feeling that I’d known her long before I ever met her,” said Ronnie Boggs, chairman of The Echo. “I’ve watched her as a leader of the Board of Education and her work as a community volunteer. We are blessed to have someone with her skills and enthusiasm, and I am thrilled to have Becky join Team Echo.”
The Oglethorpe Echo Legacy Inc. is a 501(c)(3) in partnership with The University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. UGA students will continue to work as the editorial staff of The Echo under the guidance of professors Andy Johnston and Amanda Bright.
