New tick poses threat to Georgia’s cattle industry

The Asian longhorned tick, a rapidly reproducing pest, has been confirmed in Georgia by the Georgia Department of Agriculture. Since its first reported case in Pickens County in September 2021, cases have appeared in Hall, Habersham and White counties.

Rescue helps heal horses, find them homes

Paulette Brown threw up her hand to make a bid at a horse auction and left with a large, long-limbed horse named Clydesdale, who suffered from crooked feet.   Brown attended the auction in January 2021 with a rescue group to save horses from the horse meat industry.

Quakers find home at Cherokee Corner Church

Residents voice concerns about broadband access

Residents expressed concerns regarding a lack of broadband at the Oglethorpe County Economic Development Authority meeting on Tuesday night.   They were particularly concerned about the county canceling its agreement with Paladin Wireless.

Eighth-graders receive REACH Scholarships

Eighth-grader Melody Roberts felt relief when she received the REACH Scholarship.   “(It) kind of feels like a weight is off my back, because although my parents could financially support me, I feel a lot more stable,” Roberts said.

Flu season hits schools, county hard
