County's solar power sites spark discussion

Oglethorpe County has two new solar panel sites under construction, a topic for debate within the county.      The largest project is the CED Timberland Solar Project, owned by the Consolidated Edison Inc. subsidiary Consolidated Edison Development Inc. The other is owned by Wolfskin Solar, LLC.

Organizers push art crawl to next week

The Art Crawl, which was scheduled for downtown Lexington on Saturday, has been postponed until Oct. 8 with the threat of storms and heavy winds from Hurricane Ian, which is projected to hit Georgia on Friday.

Library buys new microfilm reader

A new microfilm reader at the Oglethorpe County Library provides users with a clearer image into the county’s history.    The ViewScan 4 microfilm reader was purchased using funds raised from a pledge drive hosted by Friends of the Library, a local nonprofit organization.

MOAS explores solutions to overcrowding

No bull: BSEs can help save money

Local cattle farmer Daniella Adams took her bull in Friday for a routine breeding soundness exam, or BSE.    He didn’t pass.   While this might sound alarming for those unfamiliar with BSEs, the result, while not ideal, is also proof of the exam’s value.

Art Crawl returns to Lexington

The artists in Oglethorpe County will have a chance to gather as a community and share their work this Saturday, Oct. 1. After a three-year hiatus, the second annual Art Crawl will return to the downtown Lexington area.

Community Christmas of Oglethorpe County co-director Catherine Drewry said the organization is accepting toys, clothes and monetary donations as it begins to prepare for the holiday season.   “We’re hearing about more and more families who need help,” Drewry said this week.
