Led by the play of Leanna Newton and Elizabeth Cook, the Oglethorpe County volleyball team defeated Lake Oconee Academy, Greene County and Madison County in the past week.
The Patriots improved to 16-8.
Coach Brianne Harrison said Oglethorpe County was down two sets to Madison County on Tuesday night and came back to win 3-2.
“The team is improving on passing, and freshman setter Naomi McPeake is getting better every game,” Harrison said.
Adams, Tillman finish
Strong at Academy
John Adams was sixth and Cory Tillman finished seventh at a cross country race at Athens Academy on Saturday.
Adams had a time of 18:05.29 and Cory Tillman finished in 18:13.45 for the Patriots.
Jonah Burke (20.08.41), Josiah Young (20:11.83), Julian George (21:06.28) and Tristan Ruzowicz (21:45.97) were the next top times for OCHS.
“The weather turned warm on us and a late night after the homecoming game gave the runners some challenges to overcome, but we had a few PRs and strong finishes by John and Cory to finish six and seven against some very strong teams,” coach Brandon Adams said.

The Oglethorpe County Middle School volleyball A team defeated Banks County in three sets and the B Team won in two sets on Sept. 3.
On Sept. 8, the volleyball A team lost in two sets to Legacy Knoll and the B team lost in two sets.
The softball team lost to Social Circle on Sept. 3 and East Jackson on Sept. 8.
The football team’s makeup game against Banks County was called with the score 22-22 because of lightning with 1:18 left in the third quarter.
