Prep roundup: Baker leads softball team to 16-3 win over Clarke

Haleigh Baker pitched five innings, had a hit and drove in three runs to lead the Oglethorpe County softball team to a 16-3 victory over Clarke Central on Sept. 9.

 

Deven Weaver had two doubles and three RBIs, Georgia Turner drove in two runs and Lillie Anderson homered with two RBIs.

 

The Patriots (11-5) will hold their senior night against Putnam County at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23.

shine at meet

 

Several Oglethorpe County cross country runners set personal bests in a meet at the North Oconee Titans Invitational in Bogart last weekend.

 

John Adams was Oglethorpe County’s top finisher with a time of 17:21.24. Julian George finished in 18:29.52, Rex Allen was third in 19:02.36 and Josiah Young was fourth in 19:19.82.

 

For the girls team, Margarita Rodriguez-Valdez finished in a time of 24:59.70, followed by Bessie Musimbi (24:59.90) and Maleah Booth (28:14.20).

 

“We finished where I figured we would as we ran mostly with 4A and higher schools,” coach Brandon Adams said. “Times are getting closer to where we want. Hopefully, we will be practicing outside the remainder of the season.”

 

OCMS Results

 

The OCMS volleyball A Team clinched a spot in the tournament with a 25-21, 25-18 victory over Bear Creek on Sept. 15. The B Team also won, defeating Bear Creek 25-17, 25-22.

 

On Sept. 9, Legacy Knoll defeated the A Team 25-13, 25-14 and the B Team 25-9, 25-16.

 

The OCMS softball team lost to Banks County on Sept. 14, Commerce on Sept. 9 and East Jackson on Sept. 8.

 

Reeves Harrison was sixth and Levi Sims finished ninth to lead the boys cross country team to a fifth-place finish at North Oconee on Sept. 12. Many of the runners set personal records in the race.
