Gregory, Woods lead girls wrestling to tourney win

Emily Gregory and Alyson Woods each won their weight classes to lead the Oglethorpe County girls wrestling team to victory in the 13-team West Hall Spartan Invitational last weekend.

 

Emily Wisham and Tori Miller finished second, and McKinley Grimes, Akira Owens and Amonie’ Gresham were third in their weight classes.

 

Alexis Bruce and Brooklyn Myers were fifth.

 

The OCHS boys wrestlers were sixth out of 20 teams at the KO Sportswear West Oak Invitational.

 

Paris Crowder won his weight class. Walker Compton was third after losing an overtime match to the No. 1 5A wrestler in South Carolina. Keyvon Gresham also finished third.

 

Kendon Brown was fourth, Christian Harris and Tanner Mckie were fifth, and Damien Suarez was sixth.

 

In JV boys wrestling, Ethan Bray was first, Logan Bruce was second and Shoo Moo was third at the Spartan Slam.

 

Turner’s 16 points spark Patriots to win

Elin Turner scored 16 points and had six assists, and Marin Sampson added 14 points and seven rebounds to lead the Oglethorpe County girls basketball team to a 51-40 victory over Stephens County on Dec. 30.

 

Georgia Turner added nine points and six rebounds for OCHS.

 

The OCHS girls will host Commerce in a Region 8-A Division I game at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The boys will play at 8 p.m.
