Prep Report: Baker, Wisham spark softball team’s victory

    Haleigh Baker threw a five-inning complete game and Emily Wisham went 4-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Oglethorpe County softball team to a 16-4 victory at Rabun County on Sept. 1.

     

    Lillie Anderson added three hits and two RBIs. Maebrynn Reeves, Riley Jones and Georgia Turner had two hits each. 

     

    The Patriots (10-4, 1-3 in Region 8-AA) defeated Clarke Central 12-1 in a makeup game on Sept. 2 and lost to Banks County 7-5 on Sept. 3.

     

    OCHS volleyball defeats Cedar

     

    The OCHS volleyball team defeated Cedar Shoals 25-13 and 25-12 on Sept. 3 to improve to 6-11 this season.

     

    The Patriots are scheduled to play in the Volley for Vets tournament at Oconee County on Saturday.

     

    OCMS results

     

    The OCMS volleyball teams defeated Commerce on Sept. 2. Team A won 25-16, 25-17 and Team B won 25-17 and 25-22.

     

    The football team lost to Legacy Knoll 18-16 on Sept. 2 and the softball team lost to Social Circle 7-6 on Sept. 2.

     

    Former OCHS football players shine in games

     

    Former OCHS football players Jake Turner and KB Bonds are off to strong starts for their college teams.

     

    Turner, a running back, rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns to lead Berry College to a 50-20 victory over Huntington on Saturday. He scored on runs of 29, 1 and 61 yards in the Vikings’ season opener.

     

    Turner’s 29-yard scoring run was on the Vikings’ first offensive play of the season.

     

    Bonds, a defensive lineman who transferred from Shorter to South Carolina State earlier this year, has played in both games for the Bulldogs (2-0).

     

    He has two tackles, one for a loss. Bonds also recovered a fumble in S.C. State’s 87-0 opening victory over Savannah State on Aug. 29.
