New shoes help cross country team
Cory Tillman was 21st with a time of 18:15:32 and John Adams finished 24th in 18:21.88 in Winder on Saturday. Elin Turner was 24th with a time of 24:18.9.
Fog and a difficult course challenged the runners, but despite that, several runners earned PRs or had times close to their PRs, coach Brandon Adams said.
He also mentioned the team’s recent sponsorship by Crawford’s J&J Portable Sanitation Products that helped purchase new spikes and running shoes, with the help of Fleet Feet, a running store in Athens and Watkinsville.
“We would like to thank all of those, in and outside of the community, that purchased raffle tickets and donated money, with some of the winnings being donated back to the team,” Brandon Adams said. “New quality shoes are one of the most important items for a distance runner and can make the biggest difference, next to training.”
Jonah Burke was 37th in 19:22.38 and Rex Allen was 38th in 19:28.66.
The cross country team will run at Athens Academy on Oct. 9. Its meet scheduled for Saturday was canceled.
