Prep Roundup: Girls track team off to strong start

Denim Goddard and Zy’Kieria Edwards each won two individual events to lead the Oglethorpe County girls track team to a victory in the Loch Johnson Invitational at Cedar Shoals on March 16. 

 

The Lady Panthers won the event with 155 points to outdistance Towers, which had 122 points. 

 

Goddard won the long jump and the triple jump, and Edwards won the shot and the discus.

 

Kenzie Henderson won the high jump and finished second in the 300 hurdles, and Sydnie Henderson won the 400 and finished second in the 800.

 

Amber Watkins was second in the discus and Aariana Bell was second in the shot. Abby Jones was third in the discus and Taloria Clark was third in the shot.

 

Oglethorpe County won the 4x800 relay and was second in the 4x200, 4x100 and the 4x400 relays.

 

Soccer teams split with Prince Avenue

 

Henry Hernandez, September Htoo and Demetrio Rios each scored to lead the Oglethorpe County boys soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Prince Avenue on March 19.

 

Marin Sampson scored and had an assist, and Emmaleigh Hemingway scored, but Prince Avenue defeated the Oglethorpe County girls 3-2.

 

Frost’s three RBIs lead baseball win

 

Eli Frost had three hits and three RBIs, and Austin Lowe had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Oglethorpe County baseball team to an 8-7 win over Thomson on March 18.

 

Mathew Martin and Haiden Ashworth also drove in runs for the Patriots.

 

Jacob Sass had three hits and Wilkins added two hits in a 6-4 loss to North Oconee on March 14. 

 

Wilkins had two hits in a 4-0 loss to Thomson on March 13.
