Prep Roundup: Ossick’s walkoff sac fly leads Pats to 2-1 win

Eli Ossick hit a game-winning sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to lead Oglethorpe County to a 2-1 victory over East Jackson on Tuesday night.

 

Austin Lowe scored the game-winning run and Eli Frost pitched a complete game for the win.

 

The Patriots improved to 4-2 and are scheduled to play Lake Oconee Academy on Thursday, Feb. 29. 

 

On Feb. 23, Haiden Ashworth had two hits, four RBIs and stole two bases to lead Oglethorpe County to a 15-0 victory over Cross Creek in a game that was called after three innings.

 

Matthew Martin added two hits, a steal and three RBIs for the Patriots. Lowe also stole two bases.

 

 

Soccer teams sweep Hart

Emily Forschler, Abby Cabaniss and Reese Campbell each scored goals to lead the Oglethorpe County girls soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Hart County on Feb. 23. 

 

Emmaleigh Hemingway added three assists. 

 

The Patriots also won 4-1 behind goals from Reyes Pacheco and Miguel Rios. 

 

Hudson Stepp added two assists.

 

 

Basketball seasons come to an end

The Oglethorpe County boys basketball team defeated Elbert County to win the first state tournament game in the school’s 100-year history on Feb. 21, coach Larry Brown said, but was eliminated by Mount Vernon in the second round.

 

Mount Vernon defeated the Patriots 89-61 in the Class A Division I tournament on Saturday. 

 

Cole Appling led OCHS with 13 points, Javaun Pittard added 12 points and Jaelin Lumpkin scored 11 points.

 

In the first round, Pittard scored 22 points and had 13 rebounds to lead the Patriots (20-8) to a 62-57 victory over Elbert County. 

 

Lumpkin added 16 points and Appling finished with 12 points.

 

The OCHS girls basketball team lost to Elbert County 57-40 in the first round of the tournament, also on Feb. 21. 

 

Amber Watkins scored 11 points and Kenzie Henderson added 10 points and 14 rebounds.

 

The Lady Patriots finished the season 23-3.
