Rec Roundup: First track team has strong finishes at state meet

The first Oglethorpe County Rec Department track and field team finished strong at the state meet on April 27.

 

Ariel Miller won the 11-12 girls shot put and was fifth in the javelin. In the 11-12 boys, Maximus Cheesborough was sixth in the javelin.

 

Avy Boswell was fourth in the 9-10 girls shot, and Zamarrea Smith was seventh in the 9-10 boys 400 meters and sixth in the running long jump.

 

Paisley Thornton, Kimarie Bonds, Falynn Joiner and Aria Owens were third in the 6-8 girls 4x400 relay. Williams McCarty was sixth in the 6-8 boys 800 meters and eighth in the standing long jump.

 

Angel Cooper was third in the 6-8 boys standing long jump.

 

Football, cheerleading registration underway

 

Registration for the rec department youth football and cheer teams for ages 6-11 is through June 4.

 

Participants must attend Oglethorpe County schools or live in the county.

 

The cost is $105 and the age control date is Aug. 1, 2024.

 

The uniform fitting is scheduled for June 10-13.
