BOC approves school zone speed limit changes on Highway 22

The Oglethorpe County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved speed limit changes on Highway 22 as a part of the On System List of Roadways at Monday’s meeting.

Passing lanes to be reconfigured on Hargrove Lake, Smithonia roads

Sections of Hargrove Lake Road and Smithonia Road are going to be restriped in the coming weeks, which will lead to changes in the passing lanes, Oglethorpe County Commission Chair Jay Paul said.
Paul said 8.3 miles of Hargrove Lake Road and 4.5 miles of Smithonia Road will be restriped.

Camera, laser system ready for school zones

Early voting slow for general primary

Early voting turnout in Oglethorpe County has been slow compared to previous years.
There had been 833 in-person votes submitted and 144 absentee ballots returned and accepted through May 16, which is a turnout of around 8%.

Collins, Waldroup add planning, zoning duties

Hattie Collins and Scottie Waldroup have assumed planning and zoning responsibilities since Ashley Peterson left the department in February.
“(They) have done a fantastic job satisfying those duties,” Oglethorpe County Commission Chair Jay Paul said in an email.

After months of discussion and deliberation, the Oglethorpe County Board of Commissioners approved the motion to appoint a county administrator and administrator ordinance.
Josh Hawkins, who was the county’s director of finance, will hold the title of county administrator.
