Softball core bolstered by youngsters

The OCHS softball team is adding six freshmen to the roster this season, to go with nine returning starters and four returners. Many of the players can play multiple positions, which adds to the team’s depth.

Pokemon pays off for Mask

For Tanner Mask, Pokémon isn’t just a game — it’s a lifestyle. The Crawford native who graduated from Oglethorpe County High School in 2024, originally started playing the Nintendo Switch game with his friend George McMaster in early 2020, when he was in eighth grade and McMaster was in seventh.

BOE approves deficit budget at $30.8 million

The Oglethorpe County Board of Education unanimously approved the budget for the 2026 fiscal year at its meeting on Tuesday. The total revenue is projected at $30.8 million and the total expenses at $33.7 million, resulting in a nearly $3 million deficit.

Fake accident prepares EMA for the worst

First responders pulled three students in critical condition and a deceased bus driver from a flipped school bus and put them on stretchers to be carried to nearby ambulances.  Three other students were treated for mild injuries as their parents stood near the scene.

Forschler’s departure one of many for coaching staff

Oglethorpe County High School’s athletic staff will experience changes next year, including a new girls soccer coach.Erich Forschler is stepping away from his position following the graduation of twins Emily and Madeleine Forschler, who have signed to play at South Georgia State in Douglas.

Chamber sees personnel changes

Ronnie Boggs stepped in as chairman of the Oglethorpe County Chamber of Commerce earlier this year following the resignation of former chairman Williamson Sintyl.
