‘Joe Been Working:’ Senior has left his mark on three OCHS sports

Oglethorpe County High School senior Jordan Johnson isn’t just a standout athlete, he’s a tone-setter. Whether it’s on the football field, basketball court, or track, Johnson, who teammates call “Joe,” has built a name for himself as a competitor and someone younger athletes gravitate toward.

OCHS boys basketball focuses on culture

While the Oglethorpe County boys basketball team record isn’t what he hoped, sitting at 1-12 overall and 1-5 in Region 8-A Division I, coach Carlos Strong has faith in his team.  He said he believes they can finish well and build a new culture.

Prep Roundup: Lady Pats move to 18-2

Denim Goddard scored 19 points and had eight steals to lead the Oglethorpe County girls to a 60-43 victory at Social Circle on Tuesday.   Kenzie Henderson had 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Lady Patriots (18-2, 3-0 in Region 5-A Division I), who are fifth in the GHSA Class A Division I ranking.

No rest for Dickens with softball, basketball camps

Oglethorpe County High School volleyball and girls basketball coach Brianna Dickens has kept herself and her teams busy this offseason.

Pittard, Johnson continue impressive summer performances

Oglethorpe County’s boys basketball team’s eventful summer continued as the Patriots won the summer league tournament it hosted.   OCHS won the league with a 10-2 record after the title game planned for July 1 was canceled due to scheduling conflicts.

Brown’s summer camp focuses on improvement

Campers weren’t the only ones who felt they improved at coach Larry Brown’s basketball camp last week at Oglethorpe County High School.   Isaac Johnson, a OCHS player and camp counselor, said benefitted from the extra time on the court.   “I got better myself, honestly,” he said.

Prep roundup: Wrestling team wins four at Franklin County duals

The Oglethorpe County wrestling team went 4-1 in the Franklin County duals last Wednesday.    The Patriots defeated East Hall 72-10, Winder-Barrow 64-18, Franklin County 37-36 and Cherokee Bluff 56-21. West Oak, the defending South Carolina Class AAA state champion, defeated the Patriots 55-18.

Prep roundup: Pittard helps Pats open with victory

Javaun Pittard scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds to lead the Oglethorpe County boys to a 65-62 season-opening victory over Upson-Lee in the Billy Wade Classic on Monday at Clarke Central.   Pittard also had seven steals, four assists and three blocks for the Patriots.
