Input session gives feedback for search

Administration, teachers, students and Oglethorpe County residents attended the superintendent search input session on Jan. 15, where they worked together to answer questions regarding the goals and qualities of the new superintendent.

The Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office continues to work on two facility upgrades that Sheriff David Gabriel said he hopes will help his office better serve the county.

Early voting for the Democratic primary runoff for the Public Service Commission continues through Friday, July 11 at the Oglethorpe County Board of Elections. Only those who cast a Democratic ballot or didn’t vote in the primary election on June 17 are eligible to vote in the runoff election.

School safety discussed at planning meeting

Overseeing school safety and maintenance is a “big responsibility” and “very high priority” for Paul Thiel, who said he has seen significant upgrades to the safety and appearance of the Oglethorpe County School System the past two years.

Athens-based Rick Fowler Acoustic Band is back at Lexington’s Meson Park this year. The band, which plays a version of blues rock, will play at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 24. The show is free.

Q&A: Blalock provides support, service as Levine’s assistant

Sue Ann Blalock is often “the first face you see” in the central office.  Born and raised in Oglethorpe County, she has spent her entire 26-year career with the county schools, currently serving as Superintendent Beverley Levine’s assistant.

Listening to residents helps school system adapt

Morale was low and trust in the central office was waning when Beverley Levine took over as superintendent of the Oglethorpe County School System in 2015.

School system receives $10,000 in grants

The Oglethorpe County School System has been awarded $10,000 from the Rural Workforce Preparedness Grant, Sara Hughes, the director of federal programs, said in an email release to The Oglethorpe Echo.
