Local Roundup: Rick Fowler Band in concert on Saturday

Athens-based Rick Fowler Acoustic Band is back at Lexington’s Meson Park this year.

The band, which plays a version of blues rock, will play at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 24. The show is free.

The concert will conclude this year’s Downtown Development Authority’s Spring Concert Series, which also included The Original Screw Tops on April 5 and Gwen Hughes and the Kats on May 3.

This is the second consecutive year that the Rick Fowler Acoustic Band has played in the series, which is supported by a grant from the Georgia Council of the Arts and businesses throughout Oglethorpe County.

The Rick Fowler Acoustic Band features Fowler (vocals/guitar), Michael Doke (guitar/slide guitar/vocals), Greg Veale (bass/vocals) and Deane Quinter (drums).

Fowler’s previous bands include Ziggurat, Deacon Little and Fortnox, whose 1982

song “Storm Inside My Head” went to No. 44 in the U.S. and the video reached MTV’s top 20.

The musicians have performed with bands such as R.E.M., Drivin’ n’ Cryin’, Greg Allman and members of Widespread Panic.

Food vendors will be on site. Tables and chairs are available, or bring your own.
