More than 44% of Oglethorpe County registered voters have cast an early or absentee ballot so far in the 2024 election. These totals show early voting numbers each day through Oct. 26.

Early voting continues at steady pace

Georgia set an early voting record on Oct. 15 with 310,000, or nearly 4% of total registered voters in the state, casting a ballot. Oglethorpe County contributed 591 votes to that record-breaking total. But, the county isn’t surpassing its own record totals — yet.

Key dates and information to register to vote

Here are key dates for voting in the election, which is less than a month away.  Monday, Oct. 7 is the last day to register to vote or update your current voter registration address. It’s also the first day that ballots will be mailed to voters who have requested them.

New election rule shouldn't strongly affect Oglethorpe

The State Election Board has ordered all ballots to be hand-counted on Election Day, which will change how Oglethorpe County election officials do their jobs on Nov. 5.“I don’t know how long it will take,” said Steve McCannon, Oglethorpe County Board of Elections election assistant.

Incumbents dominate in May 21 primary at county, state levels

David Gabriel will remain sheriff for another four years. Gabriel narrowly defeated challenger James Jackson in the primary election on Tuesday to earn a third term as Oglethorpe County Sheriff. Gabriel, first elected in 2016, received 1,445 of 2,633 (54.88%) votes.
