Oglethorpe County Superintendent Beverley Levine announced her retirement, effective June 30, 2026.
Levine has spent her career in Oglethorpe County, starting as a teacher in 1987. She’s been the superintendent since 2015.
The Board of Education met in executive session on Friday morning. Levine emailed a letter to the school staff just after noon Friday.
“As superintendent, I have been humbled every day by your resilience and unwavering commitment to the students of Oglethorpe County,” Levine said in her letter to the school system. “Whether in classrooms, buses, offices, cafeterias, hallways, or athletic fields, the work you do has shaped countless lives. You have inspired me, strengthened me, and made me proud to represent this system at every turn.”
She has worked as a teacher, assistant principal and principal in Oglethorpe County.
"We invite our school family and community to join us in expressing our deepest gratitude to Superintendent Beverley Levine for her extraordinary service and in celebrating her enduring impact on Oglethorpe County Schools," BOE chair Becky Soto stated in a release.
Soto said she has started discussing the search process.
