OCHS renovations set to begin this summer

The Oglethorpe County Board of Education discussed plans for summer renovations at Oglethorpe County High School during its Tuesday meeting.  The work would include painting hallways and classrooms, retiling certain sections of the school, removing lockers and installing window tint for safety.

Election Q&A: Budget, resources top priorities for BOE candidates

Jenny Wisham and Thomas Carroll are both running on the Republican ticket for the Oglethorpe County Board of Education for District 5.  Wisham is a physical therapist who works in home health care.

BOE searches for best method to sell primary school surplus

The Oglethorpe County Board of Education struggled to come to a decision during its Tuesday meeting about whether to use a new government website to sell surplus items from the former primary school.

Input session gives feedback for search

Administration, teachers, students and Oglethorpe County residents attended the superintendent search input session on Jan. 15, where they worked together to answer questions regarding the goals and qualities of the new superintendent.

Schools increase key performance scores in 2025

Oglethorpe County High School demonstrated significant growth in 2025, as reflected in a rapid improvement in its College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), which increased from 58.7 to 71.6.

BOE approves millage rate decrease

The Oglethorpe County Board of Education approved a millage rate of 14.962 mills, lower than last year’s 16.025, during its Tuesday night meeting. This 2025 rate determines how much residents will pay in school taxes, based on 40% of their property’s market value.

The Oglethorpe County Board of Education discussed Oglethorpe County Extension coordinator Shanna Reynolds’ request to provide funding for a full-time extension program assistant at its monthly meeting Tuesday night.
