The Board of Commissioners will return to its meeting room for the meeting scheduled for Monday, April 6, Chairman Jay Paul confirmed Tuesday.
This month’s meeting was moved to the Oglethorpe County Courthouse, partly to provide more seating, but Paul and at least one commissioner said they had trouble hearing speakers at times during the March 2 meeting.
“The courtroom currently does a great job for trials, hearings, etc., but it is not set up in a conducive manner to host BOC meetings,” Paul said in an email on Tuesday. “Microphones for the BOC and podium will be significant improvements. If possible, we will modify the courtroom such that both types of proceedings will be held there, similar to what Lincoln County does.”
There were no microphones at the commissioners’ tables or at the lectern for public comment.
County administrator Jason Lewis said Tuesday that county officials also are looking into upgrading the tech in the meeting room, which was discussed at the Board of Commissioners meeting in January.
About 35 people attended last week’s meeting at the courthouse. That would’ve filled the BOC meeting room, which seats 30. The courthouse seats up to 150 people.
