Arnoldsville Mayor Danny Morcom and the city council will hear from residents about paving Pine Grove Road during a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21.
This will precede the regularly scheduled monthly council meeting, which will start at 6 p.m.
Pine Grove Road is off of Arnoldsville Road and is the only unpaved city street within city limits. If approved, the project will be funded by Oglethorpe County TSPLOST.
Residents who can’t attend the meeting can email written comments to cityofarnoldsville@gmail.com or deliver them to City Hall by Thursday.
Qualifying continues through this week
Residents of Crawford and Lexington interested in running for mayor or city council need to qualify this week.
Qualifying for mayor or one of the five city council seats in Crawford continues until 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22. Those interested in running must be a resident of Crawford for one year, a registered voter in Crawford and 21 years old.
City Hall is open from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30-4 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
Qualifying fees are $9 for all seats in Crawford.
Lexington qualifying for mayor or city council continues through 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21. Those interested in running must be a resident of Lexington, a registered voter in the city and 21 years old.
The qualifying fees are $20 for mayor and $10 for city council in Lexington.
- The Oglethorpe County Board of Elections & Registration is accepting applications for mailed ballots for this fall’s special/general election until Oct. 24. Applications are available on the county election website (oglethorpecountyga.gov/elections) or by calling the Board of Elections office at 706-743-8954.
Volunteers needed for local CASA
Volunteers to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) for CASA of the Northern Judicial Circuit are needed.
CASAs serve as the voice for local children in foster care.
The fall training session starts Sept. 13. The Northern Judicial Circuit includes Hart, Franklin, Elbert, Madison and Oglethorpe counties.

OCHS seeks groups for homecoming parade
Oglethorpe County High School is looking for businesses, teams, clubs and organizations to join this year’s homecoming parade, which is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 4 in downtown Crawford.
The annual parade will depart from and return to Bryan Park, and travel on North Street, past the depot and proceed down North Woodlawn Drive.

The deadline to enter the parade is Sept. 2.
Firefly Trail Race registration is open
It’s time to register for this fall’s Firefly Trail Race Series.
The fall races include the Fleet Feet Five Miler at Dudley Park in Athens on Aug. 24, the 21st Crawford Restoration Run 5K on Sept. 1 and the Jamboree Jog 5K Run, 10-mile Run or 10K Run in Union Point on Sept. 27.
