Local Roundup: Bramblett to perform at Marigold Festival

Randall Bramblett will headline the music portion of the annual Marigold Festival, which will be held Saturday at Pittard Park.

 

Bramblett, a longtime Athens musician, will cap the festivities, which include a parade, vendors and food trucks.

 

The vendors will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the parade is scheduled for 10 a.m., the kids area will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and live music will start at 11 a.m. and continue until about 8 p.m. 

 

A car show is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the annual 10K starts at 7:30 a.m.

 

Performers include Sir Crazy Pants, Women in STEM, the Donovan Ram Band, Kimberly Morgan York, Michael Joe White, The Howdies and Me’an Mills.

 

Admission is free. Visitors are encouraged to park at Winterville First Baptist Church, which is about one-half mile from the festival.

Maxeys Model Mile 5K set for May 17

 

The seventh annual Maxeys Model Mile, a 5K, will start and finish on the Firefly Trail on Saturday, May 17. 

 

Registration ($25) ends May 14 and there’s a virtual option ($25). Race day registration opens at 6:30 a.m. and the race begins at 7:30 a.m. 

 

The Maxeys Model Mile 5K is a USATF certified course and is a Peachtree qualifying event.   

 

The 5K starts on Laurel Lane, adjacent to the Firefly Trail, and goes through the Maxeys community. The final mile is on the trail.

The Maxeys Model Mile is the third of six races on the Firefly Trail Race Series this year. 

 

The next three races are the Fleet Fleet Five-Miler (Dudley Park, Athens) on Aug. 24, the Restoration Run 5K (Crawford) on Sept. 1 and the Union Point Junction Jamboree Jog (5K or 10K, Union Point).

 

Lovin, ranch join Angus association

 

Kilee Grace Lovin of Lexington is a new junior member of the American Angus Association. 

 

Junior members are eligible to register cattle in the American Angus Association, participate in programs conducted by the National Junior Angus Association and take part in association-sponsored shows and other national and regional events.

 

Also, Sepotuba Ranch in Winterville is a new member of the American Angus Association, which is the largest beef breed association in the world with 21,000 adult and junior members.
