Jury selection began Tuesday in the trial of Kelvin Hill, more than two years after his arrest on rape and burglary charges.

Hill, 47, of Crawford, was present for the jury selection hearing. Approximately 80 residents were called for jury selection at the Oglethorpe County Courthouse.

His trial was set to begin Wednesday.

Hill has faced at least 18 charges and has pleaded guilty to at least five felony charges and two misdemeanor charges from 2002-18. His past offenses include DUI, theft, battery, sexual battery and cruelty to children.

Hill’s attorney, William “Billy” Olson, said Hill would enter a not guilty plea. The prosecutor is Jeff Lee, senior assistant district attorney in the Northern Judicial District.

Judge J. Christopher NeSmith is presiding. NeSmith also oversaw Hill’s cases in 2007, 2008 and 2019.
