Obituary: Martha Bush

Martha Bush, 80, of Athens died March 7, 2025. The funeral service was at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 13 at Piney Grove Baptist Church, with Pastor Drakkar Kilpatrick, eulogist.  Interment was in the church cemetery.  Survivors include her son, Kevin (Kevia) Bush: siblings, Syndonia Bolton, L.M.

Obituary: Larry Ronald Kennedy

Larry R. Kennedy, 76, died March 1, 2025. The funeral service was 1 p.m. March 7 at Jones Funeral Chapel in Crawford, with Pastor J. Ricardo Smith, eulogist.  Interment was in the New Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Obituary: Vernon Nathaniel “Nat” Hansford

Vernon Nathaniel Hansford (Nat) passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025, surrounded by his family.  He was born on Oct. 16, 1943, the youngest of three children, and spent most of his childhood in Crawford. It was here that he developed a love for his family history, history and education.

Lewis Hudson Sanders, 88, of Stephens, passed away on Feb. 27, 2025.  He was born on May 17, 1936, to the late Robert H. Sanders Jr. and Janie Sorrow Sanders. He was also preceded in death by his sister Joyce S.

H. Douglas Palmer, 89, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 19, 2025 in Suffolk, Virginia. He was born on Nov.10, 1935 in Morton, Mississippi. In 1958, he graduated with a B.A. from Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi.

Obituary: Michael Montgomery Glenn

Michael Montgomery Glenn, 73, of Bogart, passed away Feb. 20, 2025.  Born April 25, 1951, in Cincinnati, he was the son of John Glenn and Bea Montgomery. At the age of 3, his family moved to Decatur, where he spent his childhood.

Obituary- Robert "Bobby" Anthony McElroy

Robert “Bobby” Anthony McElroy, 67, of Crawford, passed away on Feb. 8, 2025. Born on Sept. 14, 1957, he was the son of the late Robert Loren McElroy and Shirley Rose Hall.Bobby’s love for his family and friends was immeasurable.

Obituary- Juanita "Nita" Virginia Maxey

Juanita “Nita” Virginia Maxey of Jonesboro passed away at the age of 85 on Feb. 18, 2025. She was born in Greensboro to the late Hugh and Gladys Stanley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron L. Maxey and her brother, Walter Stanley.Nita was active in church throughout her entire life.

Obituary- Jean Fleming Maupin

Jean Fleming Maupin passed away on Feb. 23, 2025, at the age of 76.Born on July 27, 1948, in Athens, Georgia, Jean was a cherished daughter of the late Hazel Huff Fleming and Edward Fleming. She was preceded in death by her husband James (Jim) Maupin Sr.
