Douglas “Mack” Burkhalter, 80, of Lexington passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023.   Mack was born January 10, 1943 in Athens to the late George David and Flora Mae Burkhalter. He retired from Athens-Clarke County and Oglethorpe County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator.

Eugene Thomas “Gene” Stroup, 94, husband of 59 years to Mary Frances Stroup, died on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022.    Born in Cairo, IL, Gene was the son of the late William Newton Stroup and Gracie Mae Stroup of Canton, NC.

Preston Pope, 46, of Athens died Nov. 27, 2022. The funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022 at 11:30 am at Morton Chapel Baptist Church in Athens. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.   Survivors include his mother, Annie Pope; sister, Xhantalon Jennings; brother, Daris Pope, Jr.
