Mrs. Betty Ann Russell Smith went home to be with Jesus on Sunday morning, September 4, 2022. She was born in Woodland, Georgia, on February 28, 1933. She was a daughter of the late Collier Vines Russell and Jewel Estelle Butler Russell.

Lillian Lowe Shook, of Athens, died on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at the age of 99.   A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Shook was the daughter of the late Julius and Sarah Lowe, the 14th of 14 children and last surviving sibling. She was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church.

Daris Pope Sr., 78, of Athens, died Aug. 29, 2022.   The funeral service was held Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 11:30 AM at Morton Grove Baptist Church. Interment with Military Honors at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.   Survivors include his wife, Annie Pope; children, Daris Pope, Jr.

Walter Eugene “Gene” Bray, 67, of Lexington, died August 18, 2022.   Known as “Uncle Nugene”, he was lifelong resident of Oglethorpe County, and a son of the late Chandler Walter and Rubye Elizabeth Haynes Bray and preceded in death by brothers, Robert Chandler Bray and James Clifford Bray.
