Home games against Washington-Wilkes, Putnam County, Providence Christian, Rabun County and Prince Avenue Christian highlight the Oglethorpe County football schedule next fall.
The schedule, which is still being finalized, will also feature Region 8-AA games at Commerce and Athens Academy. Banks County will not play a region schedule next fall, so the Patriots’ game on Oct. 2 won’t count toward region standings.
OCHS will move from Region 8-A Division I to Region 8-AA next fall. Region 8-AA is similar to Region 8-A Division I, except for two exceptions: Elbert County will move to 8-AAA and Prince Avenue will join the region.
“The schedule is pretty much how I thought it would end up,” football coach Michael Holland said. “I didn’t think we would have much movement out of the previous region. We did lose Elbert to AAA, but Prince came back into the region, so that will definitely be a challenge. I am happy to keep Washington-Wilkes on the schedule. Historically, that has been one of the most common opponents in the program’s history. I’m happy to be able to renew that rivalry.”
The games against Providence Christian, Rabun County and Prince Avenue will be on successive weeks from Oct. 16 to Oct. 30.
