The Oglethorpe County girls finished tied for ninth at the Class A Division I state track and field meet in Rome last weekend.

The Patriots, the defending state champions, tied with Social Circle with 30 points. Vidalia won with 70 points.

Kenzie Henderson, who won the state high jump championship her first three years, was second this year with a jump of 5 feet, 4 inches.

Elin Turner was third in the triple jump, fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and seventh in the 100-meter hurdles.

Sydnie Henderson was fourth in the 400 meters and ninth in the 800.

The 4x400 relay team and the 4x800 team each finished seventh.

The OCHS girls have won three of the past five state titles — consecutive Class AA championships in 2021 and ’22 — before finishing second in Class A Division I in 2023.

They defeated Bleckley County last year for their third crown.

The OCHS boys had nine points at the state meet.

Darius Heard was fourth in the triple jump, and the 4x100 relay and 4x200 relay teams were seventh.
