Prep Roundup: OCHS hosts Wilkes in search of first win

The Oglethorpe County football team looks for its first victory of the season when it hosts Washington-Wilkes at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The Patriots are 0-2 after a 40-7 loss at East Hall on Aug. 23. Washington-Wilkes is also 0-2, with losses to Harlem and Hephzibah.

“Washington-Wilkes is a very solid football team,” OCHS coach Mike Holland said. “They have a lot of team speed at the skill positions and their spread option offense is difficult to prepare for. We have to match their intensity early in the game and finish drives this week.”

Jordan Johnson led the Patriots with 62 yards rushing and a touchdown on seven carries in Friday’s loss to East Hall. Payton Prince added 50 yards on seven carries.

Darius Heard completed six passes for 54 yards. Johnson added two catches for 20 yards and Justin Jackson had three receptions for 20 yards.

Dalton Hilley led OCHS with 12 tackles. Bryce Frankel and Clint Graham had seven tackles each, and Demarcus Meadows added a sack.

 

Softball team moves to 2-1 in region

Khloe Eidson went 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs to lead the Oglethorpe County softball team to a 13-9 victory over Rabun County on Tuesday night.

Emily Wisham went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Carlee Gibson knocked in two runs. Reese Campbell went seven innings for the victory.

The Patriots improved to 8-3, 2-1 in Region 8-A Division I.

 

Volleyball team has strong week

The Oglethorpe County volleyball team went 1-1 on Tuesday night, defeating Madison County in two sets and losing to Loganville Christian Academy in three sets.

The Patriots defeated Social Circle and Monroe Area on Aug. 22.

 

Cross country shines in Jefferson

OCHS cross country runners Cory Tillman and Sydnie Henderson finished among the top 30 at the North Georgia Championships on Saturday at Lamar Murphy Park in Jefferson.

Tillman had a time of 18:56 and Henderson finished in 21:43. John Adams  and Luke Holbrooks also finished in less than 20 minutes.  

 

OCMS football beats Washington-Wilkes

The OCMS football team defeated Washington-Wilkes 48-20 on Aug. 21 to move to 3-0.

The OCMS softball team defeated Bethlehem Christian 10-7 on Aug. 20 and lost to Jefferson 9-1 on Aug. 23. 

The OCMS volleyball A-team lost to Athens Christian on Aug. 20, but bounced back to defeat St. Joseph’s on Aug. 22 and George Walton on Aug. 26. The B-team defeated St. Joseph’s and George Walton in straight sets.
