Softball team rallies late to stay unbeaten in 8-A

Emily Wisham, Reese Campbell and Riley Jones had two hits each to lead the Oglethorpe County softball team to a 6-4 come-from-behind victory over Providence Christian on Aug. 28.

 

 

Wisham and Jones also each drove in a run for the Patriots, who trailed 4-0 in the fifth before rallying for the victory. The Patriots remained undefeated in Region 8-A Division I with a 4-0 record.

 

 

Campbell was the winning pitcher with three strikeouts.

 

 

OCHS lost a non-region game to Jasper County 4-0 on Tuesday. Campbell, Jones and Nova Hokanson each had hits for the Patriots (8-2).

 

 

OCHS will play at Clarke Central in another non-region game at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

 

 

Cross country teams compete in night race

 

 

The Oglethorpe County boys cross country team was 13th in the North Oconee Twilight Invitational, a race that was run under lights on Aug. 29.

 

 

John Adams led the Patriots with a time of 17:54.36, good for 37th place. He was followed by Cory Tillman in 18:14.41 (48th place).

 

 

Josiah Young (19:19.84), Jonah Burke (19:30.60), Rex Allen (19:31.47), Julian George (20:34.12) and Tristan Ruzowicz (21:11.74) completed the team.

 

 

Elin Turner finished with a time of 25:19.30 to finish 87th among the girls.

 

 

“The atmosphere was amazing with parents, teammates, media, teachers and others lining the course with the phone lights on in the field portion,” OCHS coach Brandon Adams said. 

 

 

The cross country team will compete at Athens Academy on Saturday.

 

 

Volleyball team defeats Eastside

 

 

The Oglethorpe County volleyball team improved to 13-8 with a 2-1 victory over Eastside on Aug. 28 at Athens Academy.

 

 

The Patriots, who are 1-2 in Area 8-A, also lost 2-0 to Athens Academy on Aug. 28.

 

 

They were 2-2 on the week, with a victory over West Hall and loss to Hart County on Aug. 26.

 

 

OCHS will host Greene County at 5 p.m. Thursday.
